Determination will go further than talent
I receive emails each morning from Rev Run (Run’s house on MTV) and one thing he talked about the other day was how any person’s inner drive and determination can surpass any great talent. What I take from it was no matter how much better someone can be at something than you, you can’t let that be a reason for your discouragement and failure. There are MANY self made millionaires who did not go to School to show them what they know now. They learned by themselves and made it happen. All it takes is a thought followed by some action to make anything happen!
When I read Diddy’s story, I was moved and felt compelled to make something out of my life as well. He worked as a janitor cleaning restrooms when he was young and did FREE internships. He eventually made his way up the latter first as an intern, then to the mailroom and so on. He said that he knew that gaining free knowledge was more to him than making money. SO TRUE! Those experiences are what drove him to the success he has today, not the making the money in the process.
Making money is nice, yes. I mean, who doesn’t want to live a better, more comfortable lifestyle? But in the end, we all know that money does NOT make any person happy. If anything, it intensifies the underlined issues you had to begin with, therefore leading to more anxiety, depression, or so forth. Loving what you do is what fuels the drive to begin with. I’ve seen people make AMAZING money but hated what they did. Personal satisfaction is far more worth the financial satisfaction. This is why we are seeing more and more people taking pay cuts and starting their own businesses. It makes their life easier getting up in the morning and more joy to their life. It also takes more ANGRY PEOPLE off the road on the way to work!
When I left behind everything (nursing school) to pursue acting, I knew it would be difficult! And it has been. But when I think of the treadmill I was once on that was moving and getting me nowhere, I knew I made the best decision for me. Slowly but surely, like any business, enough time put into your hard work WILL PAY OFF! DON’T GIVE UP!
